Driving through the tunnel at the Palm Jumeirah

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

This video shows what it’s like to drive through the sub-sea tunnel at the Palm Jumeirah.

The tunnel connects the trunk of the Palm Jumeirah to the crescent (where the major resort hotels are located – Atlantis etc.).

It is 1.4 km long and 38 m wide. It has 3 cells; the outer cells contain 3-lane roads while the central cell is used for emergency evacuation and service vehicles.

It was completed in 2007.

It will also be possible to travel to the crescent on the Palm Jumeirah Monorail. It can be seen in the video and is expected to open in April 2009.
