Hotels in Dubai are classified by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, a government department.
In order to obtain a 5 star rating a hotel must meet a number of set criteria. These include:
- Bedrooms – Luxurious furniture, mini-bar, luggage stand, coffee table, arm chair and settee, and 2 telephones
- Restaurants – 2 or more dining facilities, room service (drinks and snacks available 24 hours), and one bar (provided hotel holds alcohol license)
- Services – Air conditioning with individual control, same day laundry service, room cleaned daily and on request, free shoe polishing, babysitting, 24-hour valet parking, health club, swimming pool, car rentals, and airport transfers
Many of Dubai’s 5 star hotels have standards and facilities far in excess of the minimum requirements.
Most of Dubai’s luxury beach resorts are found in Al Sufouh, Umm Suqeim, and at the Dubai Marina. The 5-star business hotels are located mainly in Deira or the Trade Centre area (Sheikh Zayed Road).
