Bur Dubai

Bur Dubai is centrally located on the western side of the Dubai Creek. It boasts a vast array of hotels, restaurants, shops and malls, and is also a popular residential area. Many of the city’s historical attractions are also found here.

Real Estate

Bur Dubai is a bit of a concrete jungle. Most accommodation in the area is in low to medium-rise apartment blocks. New apartments are pretty expensive to rent or buy, but there are plenty of cheaper options in older buildings.

Shopping

There’s a wealth of small independent shops and stores in Bur Dubai plus a good choice of large supermarkets (Carrefour, Spinneys, Choithram, Union Co-Op). Malls include Al Khaleej Centre and Al Ain Centre, both known for computers, plus the BurJuman Centre.

Restaurants

There’s a huge choice of restaurants in Bur Dubai. The Dhow Palace is home to a couple worthy of mention. Aangan is one of the city’s finest Indian restaurants while Al Sawan offers Lebanese cuisine and belly dancing.  The Antique Bazaar at the Four Points by Sheraton is another excellent Indian restaurant. The restaurant is furnished with antiques (or at least convincing copies) and offers traditional Indian dishes complemented by live music.

The Ascot Hotel is also worth a visit. Here you’ll find Troyka, a Russian restaurant with an extravagant cabaret show, Waxy O’Connor’s Irish Pub and the Yakitori Japanese restaurant.

Independent cafes and restaurants in Bur Dubai include the Basta Art Café, XVA Café and Bastakiah Nights.

Attractions & Entertainment

Bur Dubai boasts most of the city’s heritage attractions; The Bastakia Quarter, Dubai Museum, Heritage and Diving Villages, and the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding.

Schools

There are no popular schools for expatriate children in Bur Dubai.
