Dubai Sports City

Dubai Sports City is a mixed-use development within Dubailand. The developers claim it will be the world’s first city dedicated to sport. When complete in 2010 it will cover an area of 50 million square feet and have a population of around 70,000.

Hotels

There are two hotels planned for Dubai Sports City, a 5-star hotel and a boutique hotel. The 5-star hotel will be located next to the stadiums, and the boutique hotel at South Point.

Real Estate – Villas & Apartments

Residential developments within Dubai Sports City include:

  • Victory Heights – 935 villas and townhouses set in and around the fairways of the Dunes golf course
  • Gallery Villas – 3 & 5 bedroom villas
  • Canal Residence West – 5 apartment buildings alongside the canal linking North Point and South Point. Studios, 1 – 2 bedroom apartments available (expected completion 2009)
  • Numerous apartment towers including the Champions Towers (1-4), Oasis Towers, Hamza Tower, the Global Golf Residence, the Dunes Residence and The Cube

Shopping

The main retail developments are:

  • Arena Mall – several hundred shops and a good selection of restaurants
  • North Point – waterfront boutiques, restaurants, and cafes
  • South Point - waterfront boutiques, restaurants, and cafes

Attractions & Entertainment

Sports City will boast an impressive array of sporting facilities:

  • 60,000 capacity stadium – suitable for football, rugby, and athletics
  • 25,000 capacity cricket stadium (due for completion 2008)
  • 15,000 capacity multi-purpose indoor stadium – suitable for concerts, ice hockey, and hard court games
  • 5,000 capacity hockey stadium (due for completion 2008)
  • The Dunes - 18-hole golf course designed by Ernie Els

The Arena Mall will also contain a multiplex cinema.

Schools & Sports Academies

The development will feature numerous sporting academies (all due to open in 2008):

  • Manchester United Soccer Schools
  • ICC Global Cricket Academy
  • Butch Harmon School of Golf
  • David Lloyd Tennis Academy
  • WorldHockey Academy

Dubai Sports City will also contain a number of international schools. The Bradenton Academy will offer an international baccalaureate curriculum. Other schools planned include an English secondary school, an Indian secondary school, plus nurseries and primary schools.
