Palm Jebel Ali

The Palm Jebel Ali is the second of three artificial islands being developed off the coast of Dubai by Nakheel. When complete it will be home to more than a quarter of a million people.

Shaped like a palm tree and measuring 4½ miles long by 4½ miles wide, it consists of a trunk, a spine, and 16 fronds (leaves) surrounded by a crescent. Six bridges will connect the trunk to the mainland.

Reclamation work according to the original plans was completed at the end of 2007 (although revisions have since been made involving lengthening the fronds and widening the spine).

Another development, the Dubai Waterfront, will form an arc around the island.

Real Estate – Villas and Apartments

As on the Palm Jumeirah, the fronds will contain luxury villas. Apartments will be located on the trunk and crescent.

Nakheel claims the first villas will be ready in 2010.

Attractions & Entertainment

Busch Entertainment Corporation will develop four theme parks on the Palm Jebel Ali. SeaWorld Dubai, Aquatica, Busch Gardens, and Discovery Cove will operate under Busch’s World of Discovery banner. Completion is expected in 2012.
