Bloomingdale’s to open at Dubai Mall

Macy’s Inc announced today that the first Bloomingdale’s stores outside the US will open in Dubai.

The Dubai Mall will be home to a 146,000 sq ft apparel and accessories store and a 54,000 sq ft home store. Both are expected to open in early 2010.

The stores will be managed and operated by Al Tayer Insignia, a member of the Al Tayer Group, under a licensing agreement with Macy’s.

Lundgren, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Macy’s, the parent company of Bloomingdale’s said, ‘This will be our company’s first overseas location, and we expect to learn a great deal about how our brands translate internationally. Dubai offers a unique opportunity for Bloomingdale’s. It is a fast-growing, affluent marketplace that has emerged as an international destination for tourism, sporting events and business.’
