Meydan hotel now open

The Meydan, the world’s first five-star trackside hotel, opened its doors to the world on March 4, 2010, with its very first guest checking into the property. The luxury hotel forms an integral part of the Meydan Grandstand and Racecourse, the new home to the world’s richest horse racing event, the Dubai World Cup.

Dutco Balfour Beatty wins construction contract at golf project

Dutco Balfour Beatty (DBB) has been awarded a Dhs 150 million contract to build the clubhouse and golf academy at The Tiger Woods Dubai.

The Tiger Woods Dubai is a golf course and resort project at Dubailand. Features include:

• Golf Course – A 7,800 yard, par 72, 18-hold championship golf course, Al Ruwaya, designed by Tiger Woods.
• Clubhouse – 145,000 sq ft clubhouse with restaurant, bar and lounge, and golf shop.
• Golf Academy – Staffed by PGA professionals this facility will offer high tech tuition and analysis, plus a driving range.
• Hotel – A luxury boutique hotel.
• Residences – Luxury houses and villas.

The Tiger Woods Dubai is a joint venture between Tiger Woods Design and Tatweer, a subsidiary of Dubai Holding.


Construction halted at Four Seasons hotel

Construction work on the Four Seasons hotel at Dubai Festival City has been halted according to several sources.

The Four Seasons Golf Club has reverted to its original name, the Al Badia Golf Club, and will be managed by the InterContinental Hotels Group.

InterContinental has two hotels at Dubai Festival City; the InterContinental Dubai Festival City and the Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City.

Shark diving at the Dubai Aquarium

The Dubai Aquarium, at the Dubai Mall, is now offering visitors the chance to dive with its sharks and other aquatic animals.

From May 9 divers can come face-to-face with resident sharks, stingrays, giant groupers and over 33,000 other creatures in one of the world’s largest aquariums.

3 dives are offered each day in conjunction with Al Boom Diving, one of the leading dive centres in Dubai.

Certified divers can take part immediately. Others must take a short course with Al Boom Diving.

Mr Arif Amiri, Senior Director, Emaar Properties PJSC, said, ‘Visitors to Dubai Aquarium have been fascinated by the sight of our staff divers, who dive underwater to feed our sharks and fishes every day. Now, with the launch of Shark Dives, we are offering the opportunity for all to have an incredible diving experience in an aquarium environment. Anchor Marina to open in December

Island Global Yachting (IGY) has announced that their Anchor Marina development on the Palm Jumeirah is on track for its scheduled December 2008 opening.

Located on the east and west sides of the tip of the island’s trunk it will offer more than 600 berths for boats up to 30 metres in length.


Banyan Tree to manage Meydan hotel

Meydan LLC has announced that Banyan Tree will manage a hotel complex and villa resort at their golf and equestrian resort.

The 5-star Meydan hotel will be connected to the grandstand with all suites offering an unobstructed view of the course.


Nad Al Sheba golf course closing

The Dubai Racing Club has announced that the Nad Al Sheba golf course will close permanently on June 1 to make way for the new Meydan horse racing development. The Dubai Exiles Rugby Club and the Dubai Country Club will also have to relocate, although dates for their moves have not yet been confirmed.


Tiger Woods to build his first golf course in Dubai

Tiger Woods and developers Tatweer have announced plans for a golf community at Dubailand than will include a 7,700-yard, par-72 course designed by the man himself. It will also feature a golf academy, clubhouse, 80-suite boutique hotel and 300 luxury villas. The Tiger Woods Dubai is expected to open in late 2009.
