Dubailand headquarters open

Dubailand has opened its new headquarters to the public. The 180,000 sq ft office is situated at the Dubailand roundabout on Emirates Road and features a 3,200 sq ft model of the ambitious development.

Final line up for Dubai International Jazz Festival confirmed

Chillout Productions have announced the final line up for the Dubai International Jazz Festival. Artists scheduled to appear include Freddy Cole, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Acoustic Alchemy, Toto and Jamie Cullum. The event will take place at Dubai Media City from March 8 to 10 2007.

Burj Dubai behind schedule

Developers Emaar have admitted that the Burj Dubai, anticipated to be the world’s tallest building, is currently months behind schedule. The delay has been caused by the manufacturer of the external cladding going bankrupt. Management are still confident that the construction schedule will recover and the building will be complete by the end of 2008 as planned. The Burj Dubai currently stands at 103 floors.

Zoo to move to Dubailand

The animal residents of Dubai Zoo in Jumeirah will soon be enjoying a slightly more comfortable life. Dubai Municipality have unveiled plans to build a new 500 acres zoo at Dubailand. Over one thousand animals currently live in cramped conditions in Dubai Zoo, a facility that has been repeatedly criticised by animal rights activists and residents over the years. Plans for the new zoo include a night zoo, safari and educational facilities. The zoo is expected to be complete within 18 months.

Magic Planet reopens at Deira City Centre

Magic Planet, the entertainment centre at the Deira City Centre shopping mall, has reopened after a complete refit. New rides include a suspended swing, bumper cars and an interactive video wall. The mall is currently undergoing a AED 250 million refurbishment project that includes new stores and improvements to the Food Court.

Burj Dubai reaches 95 levels

The Burj Dubai has now reached 95 levels and stands at 329 metres, taller than the Burj Al Arab. Over 3,000 workers are currently on the site, adding a new level every 3 days. The building is set to be the tallest in the world.

Great Dubai Wheel Gets the Green Light

The Dubai Municipality has given planning permission to the Great Dubai Wheel, one of the major attractions at Dubailand. The 185m wheel will be taller than the London Eye and will cost over AED 250 million. Visitors will be able to view distances up to 50 km from the comfort of one of 30 capsules. The Great Dubai Wheel will be built and managed by the Great Wheel Corporation. Construction is expected to begin shortly, with the attraction welcoming its first guests in 2009.

Dubai International Jazz Festival 2007

Chillout Productions has announced the dates for the Dubai International Jazz Festival 2007, which will run for nine days instead of three. The festival will take place between March 1 and 9 at Dubai Media City and the Madinat Jumeirah Outdoor Amphitheatre.

Anthony Younes, Managing Director for Chillout Productions, said ‘Due to the overwhelming and maintained growth of audiences by 20% each year since the beginning of the Dubai International Jazz Festival in 2003 and due to the large demand of fans and friends of the festival, we have decided to extend the festival to nine consecutive nights and add an additional venue.’

This year, the festival will showcase an incredibly diverse array of more than 24 internationally recognized recording artists. Featured genres include everything with a jazzy flavour: singer-songwriter, rocket-fuelled funk and bluegrass, pop, blues, rock, reggae, and afro-centric music.

Metro Station at the Burj Dubai

Emaar, developers of the Burj Dubai, have agreed with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority to fund a metro station at the landmark building. The station will be situated on the Dubai Metro’s Red Line, expected to be in operation in 2009.
