The International Rugby Board has announced that Dubai will host the Sevens Rugby World Cup in 2009. The Gulf state was chosen from a list of candidates that included Australia, Russia and the United States. The 2009 competition will be the fifth in the competition’s history and will be the first to include a women’s event. The main sponsors are Emirates Airline.
A free concert featuring the Jumeirah Music Centre’s intermediate and early advanced students will be held at Qanat Al Qasba’s state of the art theatre in Sharjah on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 4:00pm.
The concert program includes piano pieces by Bach, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Bartok and Kabalevsky, as well as repertoire from musical theatre such as Chicago, Phantom of the Opera and My Fair Lady.
Students of Jumeirah Music Centre from ages 9-12 promise a wonderful evening of piano, voice, guitar, recorder and flute music.

80’s pop legends Tony Hadley, ABC and Go West will be performing at the Irish Village on May 25. The show starts at 9 pm and standing tickets are priced at AED 150.
EmiratesMac User Group (EMUG), the only Apple User Group in the UAE, will on March 29th 2007 hold a special user group meeting where an Apple engineer will demonstrate the Apple TV. Dubai’s Irish Village will be holding a party to celebrate St Patrick’s Day on March 17 from 12 pm until 2 am. It will feature a bunch buffet (12 – 4.30 pm) and a dinner buffet (6 – 11.30 pm). Both will offer traditional Irish food and will cost AED 70 per person. There will be live music from several Irish bands and a supervised play area will be provided for children.
The Irish Village is situated at the Aviation Club.
Dates for the Dubai International Film Festival 2007 have been announced. The event, now in its fourth year, will be held December 9 – 16.
Chillout Productions have announced the final line up for the Dubai International Jazz Festival. Artists scheduled to appear include Freddy Cole, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Acoustic Alchemy, Toto and Jamie Cullum. The event will take place at Dubai Media City from March 8 to 10 2007.
Columbian pop sensation Shakira will perform at the Dubai Autodrome on March 23 as part of her Oral Sensation Tour. Around 25,000 people are expected to attend the concert.
Chrissie Hynde’s The Pretenders will be performing at the Irish Village, Dubai Aviation Club, on February 9. The band gained fame in the eighties with hits such as Brass in Pocket and Back on the Chain Gang.
