Fire at Atlantis

A fire has broken out at the Atlantis hotel in Dubai. The blaze started at around 7.30 am in the main lobby just weeks before it was due to open on September 24. At the height of the fire, plumes smoke stretched more than one kilometre into the air.

Developers Nakheel have stated that the fire has now been extinguished and was contained in the lobby.

Crowne Plaza International Media Production Zone

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed an agreement with the Mohammed Omar Bin Haider Group to develop a fourth Crowne Plaza hotel in Dubai.

Located in the International Media Production Zone the hotel will offer 250 rooms, 70 serviced apartments, several restaurants, a rooftop bar, swimming pool, and gymnasium.

In March IHG announced the Crowne Plaza Business Bay. IHG already operate Crown Plaza hotels at the Trade Centre and Dubai Festival City.

Radisson Dubai Trade Centre District

The Rezidor Hotel Group has announced a new hotel at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, in the Trade Centre area of the city. The Radisson Dubai Trade Centre District will offer 450 rooms and suites, numerous restaurants, a bar and nightclub, meeting and conference facilities, swimming pool, fitness centre, and car park.

The hotel is scheduled to open at the end of 2011.

Jumeirah Group to manage Palm resort

The Jumeirah Group has been appointed by Al Fattan Properties to manage the Jumeirah Al Fattan Palm Resort. The contract was signed at the Burj Al Arab hotel yesterday.

The 5-star resort is situated on the crescent of the Palm Jumeirah and features 213 rooms and suites, 4 restaurants, a private beach, beach club, spa, and meeting and conference facilities. Opening is scheduled for late 2009.

Leviev to open luxury diamond jewellery stores

Leviev, the world’s largest cutter and polisher of diamonds, has announced it will be opening 2 luxury jewellery stores in Dubai later this year. The largest will be at the Dubai Mall, set to open in late August. A smaller boutique store will be housed in the lobby of Atlantis the Palm.

Kerzner International has announced that its flagship hotel Atlantis The Palm will open in September 2008. The resort, on the crescent of the Palm Jumeirah, will feature 1539 rooms and suites, a 17 hectare water park, marine habitats and underwater exhibits with around 65,000 marine creatures, four celebrity chef restaurants, luxury boutiques, a spa, and nightclub.

Dubai’s first Premier Inn opens

UK hotel group Premier Inn have opened their first hotel in Dubai. Situated just north of the Green Community in Dubai Investment Park, it offers 308 en-suite rooms at a fixed price of Dhs 450 per room per night.

Premier Inn is owned by Whitbread, and currently operates 500 hotels with 36,000 rooms across the UK and Ireland. The company is currently building further hotels in Dubai Silicon Oasis and Garhoud.

Crowne Plaza hotel to open at Business Bay

InterContinental Hotels have announced plans to open a third Crowne Plaza in Dubai. The Crowne Plaza Dubai Business Bay will be located at Business Bay and offer 367 rooms, a health club, spa, and outdoor pool.

The hotel is scheduled to open in 2010.

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed an agreement with the Chelsea Group to develop a hotel at Business Bay.

The Crowne Plaza Business Bay will feature 367 rooms, several restaurants, numerous function and meeting rooms, a health club and spa, and outdoor swimming pool.

The hotel is scheduled to open in 2010. It will be the third Crowne Plaza hotel in Dubai.

Trip Advisor’s 2008 Travellers’ Choice Awards

Three hotels in Dubai featured in Trip Advisor’s 2008 Travellers’ Choice Awards announced earlier this month. The Royal Meriden Beach Resort and Spa ranked an impressive 8th in the Top 100 Best Luxury Hotels in the World and 2nd in the Top 10 Best Service in the World categories.

The Ritz-Carlton and Dar Al Masyaf at the Madinat Jumeirah ranked 35th and 56th in the Top 100 Best Luxury Hotels in the World.

TripAdvisor is the world’s largest online travel community. The Travellers’ Choice Awards were determined by a combination of TripAdvisor’s Popularity Index and traveller ratings.
