Construction halted at Four Seasons hotel

Construction work on the Four Seasons hotel at Dubai Festival City has been halted according to several sources.

The Four Seasons Golf Club has reverted to its original name, the Al Badia Golf Club, and will be managed by the InterContinental Hotels Group.

InterContinental has two hotels at Dubai Festival City; the InterContinental Dubai Festival City and the Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City.


Rezidor announce Park Inn Bur Dubai

Plans for a new hotel in Bur Dubai have been announced by the Rezidor Hotel Group.

The Brussels-based group will open the 220-room Park Inn Bur Dubai in the second quarter of 2012.

Rezidor is one of the fastest growing hospitality companies in the Middle East, with more than 40 hotels in operation and under development.

Dubai based Seawings LLC, the only seaplane tour operator in the Middle East, has announced that due to growing demand, they will now start flights to and from the Emirate of Fujairah on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

New Premier Inn opens

The Premier Inn Dubai Silicon Oasis has opened for business.

The UK budget hotel group opened their first hotel at Dubai Investment Park in April 2008.

The group plans to open another hotel near Dubai International Airport later this year.


Palm Jumeirah Monorail now open to the public

The Palm Jumeirah Monorail is now open to the general public.

The driverless light rail system travels runs along the trunk of Nakheel’s artificial island, from the Gateway Towers station to Atlantis.

A round trip costs Dh25 and a single Dh15.


Marriott to operate Park Towers hotel

Emirates have appointed Marriott International to operate a new hotel at the Dubai International Financial Centre.

The JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai will be housed with the Park Towers, a twin-tower development currently being built by Emirates.

The hotel will offer a total of 1,614 rooms, divided equally between the two towers. The first tower is expected to open in 2011, and the second in 2013.


First Pullman hotel in the Middle East

Accor Hospitality Middle East and Majid Al Futtaim Properties announced the launch of the first Pullman hotel in the Middle East yesterday.

The 5-star Pullman Mall of the Emirates will offer 481 rooms (including 94 suites) and will mainly cater to business travellers.

It is expected to open in the latter half of 2010 and will be situated at the Mall of the Emirates in Al Barsha.

Pullman is Accor’s upscale business hotel brand. The first Pullman hotel opened in 2007. By 2015 Accor predict there will be around 300 Pullman properties.

In 2011, the Novotel Deira City Centre will be re-branded as a Pullman hotel following an extensive refurbishment project.


New economy hotel opens tomorrow

Accor Hotels have announced that the Ibis Al Barsha hotel will open on March 31 2009.

General Manager Philippe Montaubin said ‘At Ibis Al Barsha, we are launching with a brand promise to deliver economy rates year round, not just for a few months.’

Christophe Landais, Managing Director Accor Hospitality Middle East, added ‘In Dubai, we plan a total of 16 Accor hotels: 7 are operational and 9 are under construction. Aside from Ibis, we have other existing brands such as Novotel, and under development are Sofitel, Suitehotel and Pullman. Our group has an extensive portfolio of hotel brands from economy to upper-upscale to cater to all segments of the market.’


Dusit Princess set to open in August

Thai hospitality company Dusit International have announced that they will open the Dusit Princess City Centre Dubai hotel in August 2009.

The hotel will be the first of their affordable Dusit Princess brand to open outside Thailand and will be situated in Deira, close to the Deira City Centre mall.

Dusit International already operate three properties in Dubai; the Dusit Thani Dubai, the Dusit Residence Dubai Marina, and the Pearl Coast Premier Hotel Apartments.


Best Western Premier hotels opening in May

Best Western International has announced the opening of the first Best Western Premier hotels in Dubai.

The Dhow Palace Hotel in Bur Dubai is currently being rebranded and will open as the Best Western Premier Dhow Palace on May 1 2009.

The company also stated that the Best Western Premier Creek is also on track to open in May. The new hotel is also situated in Bur Dubai and will offer 210 rooms and suites.
