Dubai to build world’s longest arch bridge

The Road Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that Dubai will build the world’s longest arch bridge. Measuring 1600 metres in length and 64 metres wide, it will span the Dubai Creek and connect Bur Dubai and Deira. The plans include a giant arch 205 metres high and 667 metres long, dwarfing the 550 metre main span of the current record holder, the Lupu Bridge in Shanghai, China.

The bridge will accommodate 12 lanes of road traffic and the Dubai Metro’s Green Line. The project will cost around Dh3 billion and is scheduled for completion in 2012.
