Pedestrian crossings to reduce road accidents
August 3rd, 2007Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has announced that it is to construct 17 pedestrian crossings at a cost of AED 70 million in a bid to stop pedestrians jaywalking and reduce the number of accidents. According to police statistics, 56 pedestrians died in the first 6 months of 2007 as a result of being run over while crossing roads. Most deaths occurred because of a lack of pedestrian crossings.
47 pedestrian crossings are also being constructed at Dubai Metro stations.
