Plans for Dubai tram system unveiled

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has appointed French transport specialists Systra as consultant for the proposed Al Sofouh Tram System.

If the preliminary plans are adopted, a 14 km tramline will from run from Dubai Marina to the Burj Al Arab, calling at Dubai Media City, the Mall of the Emirates, the Madinat Jumeirah and other stops. The tram line will be integrated with the Dubai Metro’s Red Line and will be capable of carrying 5,200 passengers in each direction per hour.

Construction is expected to commence in January 2008 and take approximately two years to complete.
