Nakheel to cut workforce

The Independent, a UK-based newspaper, reports today that Dubai’s Nakheel is about to slash 500 jobs.

The paper quotes the company response as, ‘Nakheel continues to evaluate its projects and commitments against market conditions and opportunities. In doing so, the company also evaluates its cost base and efficiencies.’

Nakheel Properties is a state-owned property developer. Major construction projects include the Palm Jumeirah, Palm Deira, Palm Jebel Ali, The World, Jumeirah Islands, Ibn Battuta Mall, Discovery Gardens, International City, and Al Furjan.

Work commences on Grand Fort Hotel

Nakheel have announced that they have broken ground on the Grand Fort Hotel, a 293-room hotel at Al Furjan.

The hotel is scheduled for completion in 2010 and will be owned by Cavern Hotel and Resorts, a joint venture between Nakheel and Indian hospitality group Bharat Hotels Limited.

Infrastructure contract signed for Al Furjan Phase One

Property developers Nakheel have signed an agreement with Khansaheb Civil Engineering to develop the infrastructure of the first phase of their Al Furjan residential development.
