Lagoons investors offered alternative deal

The National newspaper reported yesterday that investors in The Lagoons development have been offered alternative properties at Jumeirah Beach Residence by developers Sama Dubai.

Sama Dubai is a subsidiary company of the government-owned Dubai Holding group. Jumeirah Beach Residence was built by Dubai Properties, another subsidiary of Dubai Holding.

In August 2009 Dubai Holding merged the operation of Sama Dubai, Dubai Properties, and another company; Tatweer.

The Lagoons project is currently on hold.

Dutco Balfour Beatty wins construction contract at golf project

Dutco Balfour Beatty (DBB) has been awarded a Dhs 150 million contract to build the clubhouse and golf academy at The Tiger Woods Dubai.

The Tiger Woods Dubai is a golf course and resort project at Dubailand. Features include:

• Golf Course – A 7,800 yard, par 72, 18-hold championship golf course, Al Ruwaya, designed by Tiger Woods.
• Clubhouse – 145,000 sq ft clubhouse with restaurant, bar and lounge, and golf shop.
• Golf Academy – Staffed by PGA professionals this facility will offer high tech tuition and analysis, plus a driving range.
• Hotel – A luxury boutique hotel.
• Residences – Luxury houses and villas.

The Tiger Woods Dubai is a joint venture between Tiger Woods Design and Tatweer, a subsidiary of Dubai Holding.

Six Flags files for bankruptcy

Six Flags, the US-based amusement park chain, has filed for bankruptcy protection.

In March 2008 it signed an agreement with Tatweer to develop an amusement park in Dubailand.

Tatweer, a subsidiary of Dubai Holding, says the theme park at Dubailand will not be affected by the development.

Tatweer has announced an agreement with Six Flags, the world’s largest theme park company, to develop a chain of theme parks across the Middle East. The highlight will be a 5 million square feet development at Dubailand. Work is expected to commence on the Dubailand project in 2009.

DreamWorks to develop theme park at Dubailand

Tatweer, a subsidiary of Dubai Holding, has announced a strategic partnership with American film studio DreamWorks Animation to develop the world’s first DreamWorks-brand theme park at Dubailand.

Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation, said, ‘We are thrilled to bring the first DreamWorks Animation dedicated theme park to Dubai through our alliance with Tatweer for Dubailand. This relationship will allow us to create an exciting destination where families and tourists will enjoy the unique opportunity to interact with DreamWorks branded content within Dubailand.’

Details of cost and completion date were not revealed.
