Bawadi

Bawadi is an ambitious tourism project that was launched on May 1 2006 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.

The project is being managed by Tatweer and will cost AED 200 billion. It will be located on a 10 km strip at Dubailand and comprise 51 hotels with 60,000 rooms, theatres and shopping malls. The first hotels are expected to open in 2010, with the remainder complete by 2014.

Tatweer have just announced that they are doubling the investment in Bawadi (to AED 200 billion). The number of hotels is increasing from 31 to 51, and the number of hotel rooms is going up from 29,000 to 60,000.

Bawadi will also be the world's biggest shopping area. Total retail space will be in excess of 40 million square feet.
