Burj Dubai

Although its final height has not been officially released, the Burj Dubai looks set to become the tallest building in the world when it is completed in 2008. The building is part of the $20 billion Downtown Burj Dubai development being constructed by Emaar Properties that also includes the Dubai Mall. The lower 37 floors will be home to the world's first Armani Hotel.

The Burj Dubai will also have its own Metro station.

04/08 - Dubai-based property developer Emaar has announced that the Burj Dubai is now the world’s tallest man-made structure. It has reached a height of 629 metres, surpassing the KVLY TV mast in North Dakota (628.8 metres).

(14/9/07) - Dubai now boasts the tallest free-standing structure in the world. A statement was released by developers Emaar yesterday, announcing that the Burj Dubai had reached a height of 555 metres, 2 meters taller than Toronto’s CN Tower.
The Burj Dubai has still someway to go to become the tallest structure in the world. This title is currently held by the KVLY-TV mast in Blanchard, North Dakota, which measures 628.8 metres in height, but is supported by wires.

The Burj Dubai will become the tallest building in the world this coming weekend when it exceeds 509m, taller than the Taipai 101.

The Burj now stands at 468 metres (130 floors) and is now the second tallest building in the world. It only has 4 metres to go before becoming the world's tallest building. Latest rumours suggest the final height will be 606 metres.

The Burj is now bigger than the Sears Tower, the tallest building in America. Both were designed by architects Skidmore Owings and Merrill.

Rumours are it's going to have 166 floors.

Developers Emaar are still confident that the building will be complete by the fourth quarter of 2008, despite delays in the cladding work. The final height of the Burj has yet to be disclosed, although it is believed to be more than 700m/160 floors. The building currently has 119 floors.

The cladding will arrive in May 2007 and installation is expected to start in June. The cladding work has been delayed for around 1 year after the original manufacturer went bankcrupt.
