Airbnb Coupon/Discount Code 2020
Dubai Online readers can get up to $45 in credit when opening a new Airbnb account in 2020.
The promo code works for stays in Airbnb properties all over the world, not just Dubai.
Airbnb properties in Dubai are cheap when compared to hotels and serviced apartments.
In recent years the building boom has led to an oversupply of new apartments. Many owners are unable to rent these to local workers and are seeking to recoup some of their investment by renting out to visitors and tourists on Airbnb.
Some of the accommodation offered on Airbnb is very cheap. If you choose to stay in a shared/private room or a hostel the $45 credit can often be worth 1 or 2 nights’ free accommodation.
Airbnb Booking Tips for Dubai
Follow these tips to find the perfect Airbnb listing in Dubai.
1. Location – Stay in Old Dubai or Near a Metro Station
For a cheaper stay, consider staying in ‘Old Dubai’; areas such as Deira and Bur Dubai. These aren’t near the newest malls or most popular tourist attractions but do offer a more authentic experience. Transport links from ‘Old Dubai’ to ‘New Dubai’ are excellent.
The Dubai Metro is the easiest way to get around the city. It runs every day of the week and is quick and cheap. Book a property near a Dubai Metro station and you’ll enjoy good access to most areas of the city.
Our interactive map of the Dubai Metro shows the location of all Metro stations. You can also see the location of Dubai Metro stations on the Airbnb map (look for the ‘M’ icon).
Our maps also show where all the major tourist attractions and shopping malls are located.
2. Stay with an Airbnb Superhost
Some Airbnb hosts are classified as Superhosts. This is a special status on Airbnb that gives hosts certain privileges; namely highlighted listings and higher rankings.
Booking with a Superhost is more likely to lead to an enjoyable stay in Dubai.
To gain Superhost status, property owners need to meet high standards including:
- Extremely high guest ratings
- Very low cancellation rates
- Fast response rates to guest queries
Superhost status can be lost if these standards are not maintained. Hosts have a strong financial incentive to make your stay and experience pleasant.
3. Rent a Place with Air Conditioning and Wireless Internet Access
Dubai can get extremely hot; especially in the summer months. Air conditioning is a must. Most Airbnb properties in the city should have it, but it’s worth double checking before booking your stay.
If you’re in Dubai for an extended period it may be worth buying a local SIM card with a mobile data package. If you decide not to, but wish to stay connected to the internet, choose accommodation with Wifi included.
4. Book a Place with a Kitchen
Eating out in Dubai’s restaurants can be quite expensive. If you’re on a budget, consider booking a place with a kitchen or kitchenette.
Cook some meals in your accommodation and you’ll save some money. Most shopping malls in Dubai boast a supermarket or hypermarket.
5. Ask the Host for a Discount
If you have the time, it’s always worth asking the host for a discount. You’re more likely to get a reduced rate if any of the following apply:
- The property is new to Airbnb and has few reviews
- Your visit falls outside peak tourist season (November to April) and temperatures are high
- You are staying for an extended period
- The property isn’t in a popular tourist area (Dubai Marina, Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah etc.)
- You are a return visitor
- The property has plenty of availability (check the property’s calendar for availability)
You can contact the host before booking using the link on the individual property page.
6. Read Reviews
Properties for rent on the Airbnb website have a guest rating (up to 5). While it’s important to pay attention to the overall guest rating, do make sure you read the reviews to see the stories behind the score.
Problems for most guests may not be a problem for you.
For example a property may have received bad reviews for being located in a noisy/busy neighbourhood. While this could be an issue for many guests, it could be the type of environment you are looking for.
7. Use Instant Book to Save Time
Many Airbnb hosts choose to approve guests before accepting a booking. This can be time consuming, especially if there is a time difference between your location and Dubai.
Some hosts choose not to check visitors and enable the ‘Instant Book’ facility on the Airbnb platform.
8. Check the Cancellation Policy
Cancellation policies are set by the host and vary by property. Some hosts are very flexible with cancellation periods and refunds.
If you think your travel plans may change make sure you choose a property with a flexible cancellation policy.
9. Airbnb Plus
Guests more accustomed to luxury hotel accommodation can choose to say in an Airbnb Plus property. These high-end rentals have passed a detailed Airbnb inspection and offer excellent facilities.
Rates are considerably cheaper than Dubai’s traditional serviced hotel apartments.
