Palm Jumeirah

The Palm Jumeirah is the smallest of the 3 Palm Islands being built in Dubai by Nakheel. Construction began in 2001 with the first phase of villas and apartments completed in late 2006.

Golden Mile

The Palm Golden Mile will be located on the trunk of the Palm Jumeirah and will feature over 200 exclusive boutiques and restaurants.

Villas

The fronds of the Palm will be residential areas with villas housing almost 8,000 residents.

Monorail

A 5.4 km overhead monorail will run from the Gateway Station at the trunk of the Palm Jumeirah to the Atlantis, with a stop at the Trump International Hotel & Tower.

Nakheel has appointed SMRT Engineering of Singapore the contract to operate the monorail at the Palm Jumeirah. The monorail is the first to be built in the Middle East and is scheduled to open in November 2008, coinciding with the opening of the Atlantis resort. Trains will be completely automated and will be able to carry up to 2,400 passengers per hour in each direction.

State-owned investment company Istithmar has announced it is purchasing the Cunard luxury liner the QE2 for 100 million dollars. It will transform it into a luxury floating hotel, anchored at the Palm Jumeirah from 2009.

The hotels are going to be located on the breakwater, a 11 km long crescent surrounding the Palm. The breakwater is connected to one of the fronds by a 1.4 km tunnel. It is 38m wide and has 2 lanes for vehicles and 1 for services.
