Deira
Deira is the oldest part of Dubai. It lies of the eastern side of the Creek and stretches down from its mouth to Garhoud and Dubai Festival City. The area has plenty to offer in terms of hotels, restaurants, souks and shops, but suffers from horrendous traffic congestion.
Hotels
Deira boasts a good choice of hotels catering to all budgets.
- 2 star: Ibis Deira City Centre
- 3 star: K-Porte Inn, Ramada Continental
- 4 star: Al Khaleej Palace, Copthorne, Coral Deira, Emirates Concorde, Flora Grand, Grand Moov, Hawthorne, Holiday Inn Downtown, Metropolitan Hotel Deira, Novotel Deira City Centre, Riveira, Sheraton Deira, Traders
- 5 star: Hilton Dubai Creek, JW Marriott, Metropolitan Palace, Park Hyatt, Radisson SAS, Renaissance, Sheraton Dubai Creek, Sofitel City Centre, Taj Palace
- Serviced apartments: Flora Creek, Marriott Executive, Rihab Rotana, Rimal Rotana
Real Estate - Apartments
Apartments are the main form of residential accommodation in Deira. Rents and prices are cheaper than in other parts of the Dubai, primarily because of the age of the buildings, traffic congestion etc. Newer, executive apartments can be found near the Creek.
Shopping
The area is well served by supermarkets and shopping malls (Deira City Centre, Al Ghurair City, Reef Mall, and the Hamarain Centre). Most of the city’s souks are also here.
Attractions & Entertainment
There are cinemas at both the Deira City Centre and Al Ghurair City shopping malls. The Deira City Centre also boasts a children’s entertainment centre.
Schools
With most expatriate families preferring to live in other areas of Dubai, international schools in Deira are thin on the ground. The Cambridge International School in Garhoud and those at Dubai Festival City are fairly close.
