Going to the movies is a popular activity in Dubai. The the city boasts a good selection of multiplex cinemas showing English language films.
Films in languages such as Arabic, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Tagalog are also shown.
The main cinema groups in Dubai are Novo Cinemas (formerly Grand Cinemas), Reel Cinemas, VOX Cinemas (formerly CineStar), and Roxy Cinemas.
Films showing scenes of nudity, sex, homosexuality, anti-Islamic content etc. will have the relevant content cut out by the censor.
Most Dubai cinemas are located at shopping malls. A handful are located at hotels.

Reel Cinemas
Reel Cinemas at The Dubai Mall opened in August 2009. The flagship cinema was redeveloped in 2018 and now boasts 26 screens. It is currently the biggest cinema in Dubai.
The company also operates cinemas at Dubai Marina Mall, Jebel Ali Recreation Club, Rove Downtown, The Pointe, and Springs Souk.

VOX Cinemas (formerly CineStar)
VOX cinemas have theatres at the Mall of the Emirates, BurJuman, City Centre Mirdif, City Centre Deira, City Centre Al Shindagha, Cineplex – Grand Hyatt, Nakheel Mall, and Mercato Mall. They also offer a private cinema at Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates.

Roxy Cinemas
Roxy Cinemas is a relatively new venture by Meraas. In January 2017 they took over two cinemas previously operated by Reel Cinemas, at The Beach and City Walk.
They have also opened new cinemas at La Mer, Boxpark and Al Khawaneej.
Cinemacity
Cinemacity currently have one cinema in Dubai. It is situated at the Arabian Center in Al Mizhar.
Lamcy Cinema
The Lamcy Cinema was a cinema located at the Lamcy Plaza shopping mall. The 2-screen theatre showed mainly Bollywood movies.
In March 2017 the Lamcy Plaza suffered a serious fire. At the time of writing (June 2020), the mall and cinema are closed.
