According to the UN, over 1 million Bangladeshis are working in the UAE, the second-largest group after Indians. Many of these migrants send money from the UAE to Bangladesh to support their families back home.
The AED to BDT exchange rate is important for Bangladeshi migrants working in the UAE as it determines how much Bangladeshi taka they can send home.
For migrant workers from Bangladesh who are sending money back home, the dirham to taka exchange rate determines how much their families will receive.
For example, if a migrant worker has 1,000 AED to send back home, at an exchange rate of 1 AED to 27 BDT, their family would receive 27,000 BDT. However, if the exchange rate goes up to 1 AED to 28 BDT, their family would receive 28,000 BDT, a significant difference.
Exchange rates can fluctuate due to a variety of factors, such as political instability or changes in interest rates. As a result, Bangladeshi migrant workers need to stay up-to-date on the latest exchange rates so that they can make informed decisions about when to send money home.
Money Transfers from the UAE to Bangladesh – Personal Remittances
According to the World Bank, in 2020 Bangladeshi migrant workers sent $21.7 billion from overseas to Bangladesh. In 2021, the Bangladesh Bank (the central bank) stated that the highest share of remittances was sent from Saudi Arabia (23.09% of the total amount), followed by the US (13.97%), and then the UAE (9.85%).
Remittances from Bangladeshi migrant workers living and working abroad play a vital role in lifting millions of Bangladeshi citizens out of poverty. In fact, according to the World Bank, in 2020 remittances accounted for around 5.8% of Bangladesh’s gross domestic product (GDP).
