Hor Al Anz, a vibrant neighbourhood nestled in the heart of the Deira area of Dubai, is a testament to the city’s rich history and ever-evolving cultural tapestry. This area, enclosed by four major roads, is strategically located, making it a hub of activity and a preferred residential choice for many.

The roads that define its boundaries are Al Rasheed Road (D82) to the north, Abu Baker Al Siddique Road (D78) to the east, Abu Hail Road (D91) to the west, and Salah Al Din Street (D80) to the south. Each of these roads has its significance in the broader landscape of Dubai, connecting Hor Al Anz to various other parts of the city and ensuring that residents and visitors have easy access in and out of the neighbourhood.

Adjacent areas such as Abu Hail to the north, Al Waheda and Hor Al Anz East to the east, Al Khabaisi to the south, and Al Muteena to the west, further enhance the neighbourhood’s connectivity and offer additional amenities and facilities.

According to the Dubai Population Bulletin 2021, published by the Dubai Statistics Center, Hor Al Anz boasts a population of 84,661, making up 2.43% of Dubai’s total population of 3,478,300. 

Historically, Hor Al Anz was predominantly a residential hub for Emirati families. However, over the years, it has transformed into a melting pot of cultures, with the Pakistani, Indian and Bangladeshi communities forming a significant portion of the current demographic. 

The streets here are always alive with activity. The neighbourhood stands out for its thriving street culture, where residents come together in a harmonious blend of cultures and traditions, irrespective of their backgrounds. This lively atmosphere challenges the typical car-centric lifestyle of Dubai, offering a more pedestrian-friendly environment.

Single professionals, in particular, are drawn to Hor Al Anz due to its affordable rent and convenience. Everything, from supermarkets and mosques to salons and restaurants, is easily accessible, ensuring that residents have everything they need right at their doorstep.

Transportation

Hor Al Anz is well-served by Dubai’s extensive transportation network.

The Green Line of the Dubai Metro runs through the neighbourhood, following the path of Salah Al Din Street. There are two stations in Hor Al Anz:

Union Metro Station, a busy transfer station, is just a short ride away from either of these stations. Passengers can switch to the Red Line to access other parts of Dubai, such as Dubai Marina, Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, and Sheikh Zayed Road.

Abu Hail Bus Station is next to the Abu Hail Metro Station and offers several bus services. Services include:

  • 43 – This bus route connects the Gold Souq Bus Station to Al Qusais Industrial Area 2. It’s a vital route for many, with stops at key locations such as Salah Al Din Metro Station, Abu Baker Al Siddique Metro Station, Abu Hail Bus Station, and Dubai International Airport.
  • C03 – Linking Abu Hail Bus Station to Al Karama Bus Station, this bus route is another vital transit option for residents. There are stops at prominent locations like the Gold Souq Bus Station and Sharaf DG Metro Station.
  • E307A – For those looking to travel to the neighbouring emirate of Sharjah, the E307A bus route is a convenient option. Running from Abu Hail Bus Station to Al Jubail Bus Station in Sharjah, it offers a direct and efficient means of inter-emirate travel.

Taxis are readily available through services like Uber and Careem. The area is also near the E11, the UAE’s longest motorway.

Dubai International Airport is conveniently located just south of Hor Al Anz for those looking to travel internationally.

Attractions and Things to Do

Hor Al Anz is mainly a residential district and is not home to any major attractions. Hor Al Anz Park is one of a handful of recreational spaces here. It is open to families and features a playground and basketball court.

Hor Al Anz Library is a public library. The library’s collection caters to readers of all ages, encompassing topics like religion, history, geography, literature, management, economics, and medicine. Books are available in Arabic and English. The library premises include dedicated sections for children, a reading room, and an activity room. Seasonal summer and winter camps are organised, providing children with educational and enjoyable activities and events.

For beach enthusiasts, Al Mamzar Beach Park is the closest coastal retreat. Star Cinemas at Al Ghurair Centre is the nearest cinema.

Shops and Shopping Malls

Shopping is a favourite pastime for many in Dubai, and residents of Hor Al Anz are no exception. While not home to any major shopping malls, the neighbourhood offers many shopping options.

Hor Al Anz Street runs from the north to the south of the neighbourhood and is lined with many businesses. Whether you’re looking for grocery stores, currency exchanges, mobile phone shops, hair salons, cafes, or restaurants, Hor Al Anz Street has it all.

For those looking for a shopping mall experience, nearby districts offer several options. The Reef Mall and Al Ghurair Centre in Al Muraqqabat are just a short metro ride away. These malls offer a range of shopping, dining, and entertainment options.

The Waterfront Market on Deira Corniche is a modern food market that offers a wide variety of fresh fish, seafood, meat, poultry, fruits, vegetables, dry goods, and spices. It has a well-maintained and clean environment, supports local fishermen, and offers products from around the world. The market also includes retail shops, a hypermarket, and restaurants.

Another shopping destination is the Abu Hail Centre in Hor Al Anz East. This mall is renowned for its extensive collection of abaya outlets. 

Schools

Schools in Hor Al Anz include Pearl Wisdom School and Little Flower English School.

Pearl Wisdom School is a leading educational institution in the area. It follows the Indian Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum and offers a kindergarten, primary, and secondary school. NMC Medical Centre Deira was established in 1999 and offers various quality healthcare services. The centre is equipped with advanced diagnostic technology and experienced medical staff and supports multiple specialities and super-specialties. It is located right next to Abu Hail Metro Station.

Hospitals close by include the Dubai Hospital. It is located in Al Baraha and is a public hospital operated by the Dubai Health Authority. It began admitting patients in 1983 and provides various medical services and clinical support.
