Dubai Butterfly Garden gives visitors the chance to see thousands of beautiful butterflies in an enclosed environment. Over 20,000 butterflies fly freely through a series of climate-controlled domes. It is the sister attraction to the adjoining Dubai Miracle Garden.
Around 50 species are housed here. Most are colourful, exotic species from countries such as Costa Rica, Columbia, and Thailand. Walking the paths through the domes is a wonderful experience. Butterflies are in flight everywhere and will happily land on guests.
The interior is well maintained and kept at a pleasant 24 degrees Celsius. There are plenty of gazebo-style seating areas to relax and observe the beautiful creatures. Staff are knowledgeable and happy to help.
Interesting species to look out for include the giant Owl Butterfly, one of the largest butterflies in the world. It is named for the large ‘eyespots’ on its wings that resemble owls’ eyes.
There’s an area where visitors can observe the life cycle of a butterfly and see newly hatched butterflies. A small museum contains a number of interesting exhibits while the souvenir shop sells mounted butterflies. There’s also a coffee shop and food kiosk here.
Ticket prices at the time of writing (September 2019) are 55 AED (see this page for exchange rates). There are no discounts for children. The entry fee is waived for babies (aged 2 and below) and the disabled.
A separate ticket is need to visit Dubai Miracle Garden. No dual attraction deals are available.
Dubai Butterfly Garden is open throughout the year, every day of the week. Timings are 9 am to 6 pm (including public holidays). The best time to visit is on a weekday when it is quieter. Visitors should note that neighbouring Dubai Miracle Garden is a seasonal attraction, open in the winter months only.
Dubai Butterfly Garden is located in Al Barsha South, right next to Dubai Miracle Garden.
There’s no Metro station nearby. One option to get there by public transport is to take a Red Line train to the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station. From here the 105 bus (seasonal) goes directly to Dubai Butterfly Garden/Dubai Miracle Garden. Feeder buses F30 and F36 also go near the attraction (a walk is necessary).
Taking a taxi from the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station is another option.
