Al Muraqqabat, Dubai

Al Muraqqabat is a vibrant urban neighbourhood in Deira, in eastern Dubai. While primarily recognised as a residential district, Al Muraqqabat is also a hub for commercial activities, boasting numerous shopping malls, hotels, and restaurants.

The area is densely populated. According to the Dubai Population Bulletin 2021, released by the Dubai Statistics Center, Al Muraqqabat’s population stood at 73,087, accounting for 2.10% of Dubai’s total population of 3,478,300.

Four major roads bound the locality: Salah Al Din Street (D80), Abu Baker Al Siddique Road (D78), Al Maktoum Road (D89), Al Rasheed Road (D82), and Omar Bin Al Khattab Street (D88). Al Rigga Road, another significant street, traverses the district from east to west.

The famed Deira Clocktower graces its southeastern corner, while the Fish Roundabout, another renowned landmark, marks its northwestern boundary.

Surrounding districts are Al Rigga, Al Muteena, Riggat Al Buteen, Port Saeed, and Al Khabaisi. 

Public Transportation – Metro Stations, Bus Stations

Al Muraqqabat enjoys excellent transportation links, making getting around easy for residents and visitors.

The Dubai Metro Red Line runs directly through the area. Al Rigga Metro Station offers a direct service to destinations such as Dubai International Airport, City Centre Deira, BurJuman, Karama, Dubai World Trade Centre, DIFC, Downtown Dubai (Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall), Business Bay, Dubai Marina, and Jumeirah Lakes Towers.

Salah Al Din Metro Station, on the Green Line, is at the neighbourhood’s northern end.

Union Metro Station, one stop from Al Rigga Metro Station, is a transfer station where passengers can switch between the Red Line and Green Line. Union Bus Station is next to it and offers regular bus services to Sharjah, Ajman, and Fujairah.

Dubai Creek lies south of Al Muraqqabat and adds a touch of traditional charm to the area’s transport network. Boats from Baniyas Marine Transport Station go to Dubai Old Souq Marine Transport Station and Al Seef Marine Transport Station in Bur Dubai.

Dubai International Airport is nearby. It can be reached by taking a train from Al Rigga Metro Station. 


The major shopping mall in the area is Al Ghurair Centre. This sprawling destination opened in 1980 and was the first mall in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). After recent renovations, Al Ghurair Centre now boasts over 300 retail outlets. Large stores here include Centrepoint, Matalan, and Max. The mall also has a sizable food court and an array of cafes and restaurants.

Another shopping gem in Al Muraqqabat is the Reef Mall. This compact shopping centre is perfect for those who prefer a more intimate shopping experience. It offers discount and budget-friendly stores, an Almaya supermarket, and casual dining choices. Its location next to Salah Al Din Metro Station makes it easily accessible.

In addition to malls, Al Muraqqabat has many independent shops and supermarkets. 

A short metro ride away from Al Rigga Metro Station lies one of Dubai’s most iconic shopping destinations: City Centre Deira. This expansive mall, located next to the Deira City Centre Metro Station, offers a massive choice of brands, entertainment venues, and restaurants.

Attractions and Things to Do

Al Muraqqabat is a residential and commercial district with no major tourist attractions.

For movie lovers, the new 14-screen Star Cinemas at Al Ghurair Centre mall shows English, Hindi and Arabic films. Alternatively, film fans can take the Dubai Metro from Al Rigga Station to Deira City Centre. The VOX Cinemas City Centre Deira offers 20 screens. 

Just south of Al Muraqqabat is Dubai Creek, which can be explored on foot. A walk along the northern bank leads to top attractions like the Gold Souk and aromatic Spice Souk. Crossing the creek on an abra boat from Baniyas Marine Transport Station takes you to Bur Dubai. Attractions here include Al Seef and the Old Souk.

For some time at the beach, Al Mamzar Beach Park is a short drive or bus trip away. This beach park has manicured gardens, swimming pools, children’s play areas, and picturesque spots to picnic.

Schools and Education

While no schools are directly located within the Al Muraqqabat area, the locality is well-connected to other areas of Dubai. Students can use the Dubai Metro and bus routes to access schools across the city.

Some of the most popular schools near Al Muraqqabat include:

  • Pearl Wisdom School – Located in Hor Al Anz, this is considered one of the top Indian curriculum schools in Dubai. It offers the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) program up to 12th grade. 
  • GEMS Legacy School – Kindergarten and elementary school in Garhoud.
