Universal City and Studios Dubailand

Universal City will be situated at Dubailand and operated by US-based Universal Studios, who already manage similar developments in Los Angeles, Florida and Japan.

At its heart will be Universal Studios Dubailand, a theme park based on scenes from famous movies such as Jurassic Park and King Kong.

The entire Universal City project will cost over $2 billion and cover an area of more than 20 million square feet. It will include more than 4,000 hotel rooms and 100 restaurants and retail stores.

Completion is scheduled for 2010.

They should really push forward with this project. Once it is built it will attract a lot of people from the Middle East, Asia, Europe and is certain to be a commercial success.

I understand that part of the development is on hold (roller coasters) due to a financial mishap. I don't know when they will resume fabrication of 3 rides that were due this year.

Developers Tatweer hope that Universal Studios Dubai will eventually attract over 5 million visitors per year. In addition to rides found at other Universal Studios, the Dubai theme park will feature a number of locally influenced rides including the Eighth Voyage of Sinbad and Aladdin's Magic Carpet Ride.
